Sunny Leone’s Controversies

In May 2015, Sunny Leone faced legal action when a woman in Mumbai filed a police first information report, alleging that Leone’s website, sunnyleone.com, was detrimental to Indian culture. The Thane police’s cyber cell at Ramnagar booked her under sections 292, 292A, and 294, which carried the potential for imprisonment, a fine, or both. Senior police inspector JK Sawant explained, “We cannot block the website, but will ask the operator to remove objectionable content.”

In the New Year of 2017, a pro-Kannada group named Rakshana Vedike Yuva Sene protested against the Bengaluru NYE 2018 event, Sunny Night, in Bangalore, Karnataka, where Leone was scheduled to perform. The group argued that she should have been banned from the event due to her past in the adult film industry. The protesters even went to the extent of threatening mass suicide, leading Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy to deny permission for Leone to appear at the event.
